6th September : race start at Noon
Notice is given to muster your teams and mustard your sausage!
Come along to one of the best events of the year: full of socialising, a proper slap-up barbecue and some racing to join in or watch. If you've not raced before, this is the place to start with the racing as serious as you want to make it. You make up a team, choose a boat and sail an hour-long circuit of the lake, then come in and make a frantic change-over of crew. Teams are judged by the PY handicap system to give everyone a chance of a prize: it's down to the helm to get the best out of your boat and enjoy the sailing along the way.
Steve Marlow will be looking after the event as Race Officer, so it will be in good hands and extra help onshore and on the safety boats will ensure it is a really exciting day. Look out for further details in the club house for sailing instructions, but there will be a briefing at 11.30am on the day and a last chance to enter your team.
The BBQ will from 1pm till 3pm with burgers, sausages with a range of salads.
It is also a chance to meet both our new WSC members as well as any potential new members who are visiting. New members to WSC in 2015 can claim a free BBQ - let the the membership secretary know for a token.
We ran our second Open Day alongside the 4-hour race and it works very well - but we do need some extra help. It need only be for a couple of hours to help meet and greet visitors, provide an extra SO and ASO or help in the kitchen. You may only be sailing for an hour so your hospitality and customary WSC warm welcome would be most helpful in greeting visitors and show them how we enjoy ourselves.
Not interested in racing?
You can still be involved by coming along and helping the Open Day team. We need mmembers to volunteer to:
- to meet and greet visitors
- find them a volunteer sailor to take them out for a sail
- kit them out with a buoyancy aid
- sit and have a cup of tea with them
- help out the kitchen duty team
We do need helpers on the day, if only for a couple of hours, so send your name to email@example.com and tell us where you'd like to help.
